to write love on her arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. a long time supporter of this organization, i have still always felt slightly undereducated on the subject of self abuse/cutting, though i’ve always felt an intense empathy towards the emotional mindfield that impacts people who suffer pain so strong it creates a need to use coping mechanisms for relief, sometimes involving negative impulsive behavior.
recently TWLOHA has teamed up with kristen brooks hope center (1-800-SUICIDE) for “IM alive,” the first online peer to peer support system fighting against depression and suicide. personal experiences with suicide have been a huge part of my life and have truly impacted who i have grown into as a a person. a close friend who works with TWLOHA brought this new project to my attention, a venture i foresee building hope for everyone…from people closely or personally effected by suicide and depression to anyone who belives in life and its beauty. i plan hope to become more involved and do whatever i can to help support this cause.

8 months agowhen i was in middle school i used to inline skate. this was during the brief 3-4 years where inline skating was super trendy and skatepark attendees were split just about 50/50 inliners/skateboarders. (by about 1999 the skateboarders basically teased and tourtured inlining to it’s demise and every kid either switched over or quit entirely.) during those glory days, a brand of shoes came out called soaps. they looked like this:

the middle of the shoe was basically a big piece of plastic/rubber used to grind curbs or rails. the “movement” was dubbed “freestyle walking” and lasted about a month. if you were B+ skater or better, these were totally unacceptable to own. for everyone else, they were sweet…(for that month.) i secretly wanted a pair, but didn’t want to get made fun of. i get reminded of soaps every time i see these stupid roller shoe things around:

i wanna push over every little kid i see scooting about on there heels. drives me nuts.
bring back soaps. i’m going on ebay and me and paul are both buying the pairs we always secretly wanted but were too cool to buy…and will probably get bored in 15 minutes.
but hey, anything to help bring down with the idiotskate.
oh yeah, this tour has been awesome. i think i’ve used my computer about 6 times.
